Affordable homes plans lodged in Sheffield

Applications for the second phase of home building by Sheffield Housing Company go before the city’s planning committee next Tuesday (26th May).

A total of 297 properties – of which around 275 would be for sale – are proposed for four areas of the city and all are recommended for approval by planning officers. 

The applications are for:

  • 59 larger than average, two to six bedroomed homes, on land between Earl Marshal Road and Barnsley Road – adjacent to Fir Vale School Playing Fields
  • 122 family houses at Falstaff Crescent, Falstaff Road, Buchanan Road and Collinson Road, next to Parson Cross Park
  • Nine apartments and 83 houses on land between Park Grange Road and Beeches Drive - extending to Samuel Drive and Park Grange Drive – in the Norfolk Park area
  • A three storey, 24 apartment development on the site of Park Grange Old Peoples’ Home

If the applications are granted, these developments would take the number of Sheffield Housing Company homes approved to 602 and construction could be underway by as soon as this summer.

Work is already well advanced on the first phase of developments – 189 at Brearley Forge and Brearley Springs in Shirecliffe and 116 at Cutler’s View, Norfolk Park.  So far 129 of these have been sold and 70 are being rented by Great Places Housing Group and Sheffield City Council.

Sheffield Housing Company is a partnership between the city council, regeneration specialist Keepmoat and Great Places.  Its aim is to deliver high quality homes offering excellent value.

The 15-year plan is to build 2,300 new homes in seven of Sheffield’s most vibrant neighbourhoods. This mixture of two to five bedroomed properties will all have the latest home energy saving systems and living-space enhancements, which can be easily modified as residents’ needs change – making them lifetime homes.  No other developer builds to the exacting standards specified by Sheffield Housing Company.

Project Director, Tom Fenton said “Once again space, value and energy efficiency are the principles which drive the design and development of these new homes.  With around 15% of the properties completed to Mobility Standards and 10% being fully wheelchair accessible, we can also help people to remain living independently for as long as possible.”
