Combating fuel poverty, delivering innovative renewable technologies, tackling the Smart Meter rollout or budgets concerns – all are key challenges being addressed by members of the AGSM (Association of Gas Safety Managers) in providing safe, sustainable, affordable warmth to over two million social housing homes.
In the current climate it’s never been more crucial to work closely with suppliers in the gas, plumbing, electrical and renewable industry through collaborative projects, shared ideas and innovative solutions to keep the sector moving forward.
The AGSM Gas Safety Management Conference in April 2016 heard from many organisations who are collaborating widely to make a difference – Windhager and Warwick District Council are trialling 23 Biomass boilers for social housing homes with funding from the Renewable Heat Incentive premium payment scheme. Smart Energy GB are working on community awareness programmes supported by DECC and OfGem funding to help bring down costs for tenants.
National Energy Action works with Housing Associations to help with vulnerable customer strategies. Boiler manufacturers are focusing on innovative products to help reduce costs for tenants – the Conference heard from Wolseley UK, Vaillant and Worcester, Bosch Group on their views about future developments.
“The AGSM Supplier Excellence Awards recognise and celebrate innovation, excellence and collaboration,” said Claire Heyes, CEO of the AGSM. “We launched the Awards last year which were hugely successful and lots of beneficial contacts were made. The Awards recognised the success and sharing of ideas of some key individuals and organisations who are working hard to raise standards in the social housing sector.” The winners in the spotlight in 2015 were Aico Ltd, CTS Projects, Sure Group, Sentinel Performance Solutions, Vaillant, Wheldon Contracts & Services, Baxi, Sure Group, Worcester, Bosch Group, PH Jones, EMH Homes and Wrekin Housing Trust.
“If you are innovating, we want to know about it – from contractors to manufacturers! We want to hear about training initiatives, examples of leadership, particularly by women, achievements by young people and outstanding commercial gas contractors. Finally,” concluded Claire, “we are looking for examples of customer service excellence, renewable projects and initiatives to combat fuel poverty. The Awards are a real celebration of Excellence, Innovation and Collaboration which will bring the industry together. Enter the Awards and make sure that you are in the spotlight – it’s got to be the biggest return on investment any smart marketer can make!”
