Successful fire door replacement programme from Sidey
Sidey has embarked on a replacement project with a Housing Association to replace fire doors in over 1000 properties throughout the region.
Specification
Sidey supplied and fitted white inside and outside solid six panel FD30 composite fire doors. Every Sidey manufactured fire door is fully certified under the new BM Trada Scheme STD 170 (both glazed and unglazed doors). FD30 doors are tested in line with cyclic testing for both fire and smoke in line with current standards and requirements. Tested both internally and externally to BSEN1634-1 and Smoke control resistance tested to EN1634-3:2004.
Additionally, FD30 doors are tested to PAS24 Enhanced Security standard including durability, weather tightness and cycle testing.
Measured Benefit
The client and its residents benefited from the upgrade of old, non-compliant door sets with new doors offering 30-minute fire protection; manufactured and installed by experienced certified installers.
Complexities
The FD30 composite fire door accreditation is restricted to certain maximum sizing on side lights and fanlights. In this instance of overly large side lights or fanlights, Sidey engaged with their supply chain and provided fully compliant timber FD30 door sets to comply with this requirement.
Manufactured In-House
Following on from being among the first UK companies to achieve new fire door certification, Joint Managing Director, Steve Hardy, talks about Sidey’s investment in a bespoke fire door factory and the benefits that it brings. He comments: “Upturn in demand for FD30 products called for the development of a strategy of long-term commitment which would position us to meet our customers additional needs for fire door products. Quality, commitment, and service is at the heart of everything we do, which was the main driving force behind this investment.
"Once the decision was made to invest in the new facility, our team developed the management systems, processes & procedures that would enable us to undertake the manufacturing and support process required. This was all put in place along with new machinery and equipment which allowed for certification and manufacture to be undertaken.
The benefits of this facility include extra storage capacity, additional machinery and equipment, along with a recruitment drive for a team that have been trained and retain specialist skills in the manufacture of our FD30 range”.
