Over 330 Years of Heritage and Innovation in Eco-Friendly Building

Eco Tiffin has established itself as a leader in ecofriendly construction and energy-efficient building solutions. With over 330 years, covering six centuries of expertise, the Tiffin family business has earned a reputation for remedial repairs and improvements to domestic buildings, prioritising a holistic and pragmatic fabric-first approach to preserve heritage and deliver sustainable outcomes.

Now led by Robert Tiffin, the 11th generation of the family, the company continues its tradition of excellence. Robert, who has over 50 years of industry experience, began his career as a quantity surveyor and has worked on a range of projects, including schools, health centres, modular system building, new building estates and older and listed buildings for the last 20 years. His expertise and leadership have been widely recognized. He has served as Vice President of Property Care Association and on the Federation of Master Builders and also served as an expert panellist at Grand Designs Live in 2018 and 2019. In 2020, he also provided oral evidence to the Government’s All-Party Environmental Select Committee, sharing his insights on energy efficiency.

With the increasing demand for sustainable building solutions, Eco Tiffin integrates ecological principles into its work, ensuring energy efficiency and reducing carbon footprints. Robert Tiffin has also pioneered thermography techniques over the last 25 years to identify dampness and energy loss in properties. This knowledge helps property owners’ lower energy bills, enhance comfort, and minimise environmental impact.

At the heart of Eco Tiffin’s work is the Air Drain, an innovative solution to help combat dampness in external walls. Unlike conventional methods that treat symptoms, the Air Drain targets the root cause by promoting natural evaporation of moisture from masonry. This groundbreaking product, patented and unique in its design, surrounds the exterior perimeter of a property without invasive internal alterations to the structure.

The concept for the Air Drain arose during Robert’s thermography training, where he frequently identified cold bridging at ground-floor wall junctions. While traditional solutions addressed some cold bridging issues, no product effectively tackled dampness at its source. The Air Drain fills this gap, offering a proactive and efficient solution to prevent damp-related damage and reduce cold bridging.

Launched on stage with Kevin McCloud MBE at Grand Designs Live, the Air Drain has been embraced by Eco Tiffin’s private and public clients, including Hounslow Council. The council recently adopted the Air Drain as part of its strategy to help improve energy efficiency and tackle the reduction of dampness in social housing properties.
