Outdoor living with indoor comfort

Eriboll Street is a new-build project for Loretto Housing Association in Glasgow, comprising three blocks of apartments, 26 of which feature a Windoor System 1000 Light enclosed balcony.
This new build development of three apartment blocks features Windoor System 1000 Light frameless glazing throughout. The full height clear toughened sliding folding opening glass gives complete flexibility to the 26 wintergardens, allowing residents to enjoy their balcony space all year round.

Feature fanlights above provide additional ventilation independently of the glazed panels below. For additional security, the balconies were completed with a PPC steel balustrade by Martec Engineering to provide a safe barrier to the front of the opening glass to 1100mm.

Made in Yorkshire!

Visitors to the home of British manufacturer Pegler Yorkshire in Doncaster are taken off the M18 past a roundabout, flower-filled courtesy of the company’s sponsorship. And its commitment to the community doesn’t stop there - every year Pegler support Teen Tech, an event which encourages school children from around the town to discuss and experience science and engineering with local businesses.

Every stage in the manufacture of Pegler’s Terrier TRV is undertaken at these Doncaster premises, from the initial delivery of the solid brass bars (over 6,000 tonnes a year) to the finished products’ packaging for retailers and end-users.

Take a deep breath…

Poor indoor air quality can lead to visible pollutants such as mould growth, and also allow the build-up of hidden dangers such as CO, VOCs, etc. which can have an adverse effect on health. HA speaks to Chris Yates, Managing Director of Johnson & Starley, about how RSLs can help by improving ventilation.

How can poor IAQ affect residents’ health?
Chris: Health issues can range from irritated eyes, nose and throat, headaches, tiredness to difficulty breathing, nausea, confusion and difficulty in concentrating.  With long term exposure there can be damage to the heart, liver or kidneys and central nervous system, as well as hypersensitivity pneumonitis, allergic rhinitis (hay fever) and asthma.

Demonstrating the value of upgrades

When a Basingstoke Housing Association was looking at upgrading the heating in 200 of its rural properties to meet the main driver of helping alleviate fuel poverty, it was also able to make a strong business case to fast-track the investment needed.

Sentinel Housing Association owns and manages around 10,000 homes across 12 local authority areas in Hampshire and Surrey.

Sentinel had already scheduled 200 rural off-gas properties for an upgrade over the next five years but these have been fast-tracked to enable tenants to benefit from lower energy bills and better overall temperature control with the installation of air source heat pumps, alongside improvements to future proof the homes.
