“Ever since the Grenfell tragedy, a lot of areas need to be addressed and revised,” says Lee Caulfield Director of UK Sales at Titon Ventilation Systems.  Lee stresses that even though procedures are in place, the current regulations need to be changed.

Lee continues, “In the aftermath of recent tragic, fire-related events, it has become apparent that various products within a building’s make-up need to be non-combustible.”

Air Bricks are primarily used for ventilation; passively or mechanical depending on the application. Traditional materials used include clay, cast iron and plastic, with plastic being the preferred option.

With the ongoing improvements to building regulations and a focus on insulating homes for greater energy efficiency the need for ventilation can be overlooked.

Adequate ventilation within the home is essential and has been shown to have a positive impact on the health and wellbeing of householders.  During the last 10-15 years the requirement for whole house ventilation and recovery systems has become more prevalent.  As systems developed and designs progressed the need for through wall ventilation products increased.

Titon launches new online video library

Titon has introduced an online video library to offer support and help to customers, particularly now that so many are working from home.  The new online videos cover both the Ventilation Systems and Window & Door Hardware divisions. Available on both the company’s website and YouTube channel, the new library features educational film clips and provides customers with a central hub of essential information.

Households encouraged to protect lungs from Radon

Airtech, the condensation, mould and radon specialists, is supporting UK Radon Awareness Week (2-8 November 2020) which is run by the UK Radon Association, by encouraging households to protect their lungs by being Radon Aware and taking action. This year radon awareness is more important than ever due the pandemic, firstly because households are spending longer periods of time at home and so have extended periods of exposure to radon in radon-affected properties. Secondly good lung health is paramount in helping protect against COVID-19. With radon the second leading cause of lung cancer in the UK after smoking it poses a significant risk to lung health with an estimated 1100 deaths each year estimated to be caused by exposure to the gas.
